Java on DEVAE
The Java hub leans toward people working on services that have to stay up: Spring Boot APIs, event-driven systems, banking and enterprise integrations, and the JVM performance work that comes with them. It is also where students learning Java for coursework or interviews find people a few years ahead of them. Threads cover architecture and tooling as much as syntax — module layouts, testing, observability, migrating between Java versions — and rooms are used for walking through a heap dump or a slow query with the terminal shared.

Reading anchors the Thames Valley corridor, historically the UK landing site for American enterprise software and telecoms companies. Work here is weighted toward large-vendor ecosystems, integration and infrastructure, and many engineers split their week between an office along the M4 and home.
